On September 29, 2006, Teknoweb Srl ("Teknoweb") and Fameccanica.Data SpA ("Fameccanica") have entered into a
license agreement concerning the Fameccanica’s Intellectual Property relevant to Fameccanica’s Model WEWI
manufacturing machines for disposable wet wipes.
The evolution of the disposable wet wipes market in the last years has been characterized by a considerable expansion
trend but also by an escalating fragmentation. Consequently, if on one side there are expectations for an increasing
demand of wet wipes manufacturing machines, from the other, it is anticipated that the degree of specialization of such
machines shall be greater in order to satisfy very specific requirements deriving from end products that, even though
belonging to the same category, can be, among them, very different, both for the imbuing substance (liquid, lotion,
cream, etc.) and for the base material (nonwoven, paper, etc.), or for the dimensions and the types of fold; without
considering the packaging that is also very diverse for the various typologies of wet wipes. In the meantime, in order to
improve the level of operational efficiency in a persisting not so favorable economic situation, the industry, in general,
is reducing the size of the capital investments in manufacturing equipment while demanding higher performances for
the machinery. This is very true particularly in the disposable wet wipes converting industry.
The challenge set by such a scenery to a supplier of machines for the production of disposable wet wipes is, therefore,
of not little account: in addition to the ability to develop proper technologies for the various foreseen needs and fields of
use there is the necessity to conceive machine designs that have to be, at the same time, specific and economic, or
sufficiently flexible so as to be able to be used in many different fields of application and, additionally, that offer
production performances higher than those of comparable machines currently available; all of this at a manufacturing
costs that allow to sell such machines at competitive prices. Such may be accomplished only with an extreme focus on
the specific business and with the ability to invest substantial resources in the continuous development of the know-how
and organization necessary to the purpose.
After a joint, in-depth, study and a careful evaluation, Fameccanica and Teknoweb resolved to enter into an agreement
under which Fameccanica licenses to Teknoweb the manufacturing, marketing and servicing of Fameccanica’s Model
WEWI machines for the converting of disposable wet wipes. Teknoweb will also take care of servicing and upgrading
the Model WEWI machines delivered so far by Fameccanica and to further develop the WEWI design platform.
Through this agreement the disposable wet wipe converting industry, in general, and the Fameccanica’s and
Teknoweb’s customers, in particular, will benefit from a wider and more competitive offering and an improved level of
service.
